About Emily deStefano, ND
Emily deStefano, also known as Em Naturopathic, is a board-certified licensed Vitalistic Naturopathic Doctor specializing in preconception, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, birth education, pediatrics, and nature-centered family wellness. As a graduate of the University of Arizona Honors College, Emily earned dual degrees in Honors Physiology (College of Medicine) and Psychology (College of Science), with a minor in Nutritional Sciences, graduating summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was honored with the Outstanding Senior Award for her graduating class, a testament to her dedication and excellence.
Emily later graduated from Bastyr University San Diego, where she excelled both academically and clinically. During her time at Bastyr, she was selected to join the highly selective Vitalism Fellowship, with highly renowned Naturopathic elders, an honor typically reserved for post-graduate practitioners, recognizing her exceptional commitment to holistic, nature-aligned healing. This fellowship deepened her passion for and expertise in the vitalistic principles of naturopathic medicine, which continue to guide her work today.
Emily is happily married to her husband, and together they are currently preparing to welcome their first baby boy, an experience that has further deepened her passion for supporting mothers and families through preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
How Emily Discovered Naturopathic Medicine
From a young age, Emily dreamed of becoming a doctor and was deeply immersed in the path toward becoming an MD, aspiring to work as an anesthesiologist. She gained extensive experience in the allopathic medical world through internships in anesthesiology, work in the cardiology unit at Banner Health Hospital in Tucson, assisting at a wound clinic, observing both vaginal and C-section births, and serving as a Spanish translator and triager for free medical trips to Agua Prieta, Mexico. Alongside her clinical experiences, she held several leadership roles at the University of Arizona, further deepening her commitment to medicine and patient care.
Despite her dedication to this path, Emily experienced a profound awakening during her sophomore year at the University of Arizona. After a long day working in the cardiology unit, she realized a heartbreaking truth: many patients were not truly healing, and the deeper she immersed herself in the conventional medical system, the clearer it became that this path would not allow her to help people in the way she had envisioned.
Fortunately, an integrative family medicine physician mentor introduced Emily to naturopathic medicine and connected her with a naturopathic doctor in Tucson to shadow. From her very first day in the office, Emily was hooked. She fell in love with the philosophy of addressing root causes, working with the body’s innate ability to heal, and supporting patients through holistic care aligned with her deepest values.
Inspired and reinvigorated, Emily shifted her path toward naturopathic medicine and became fully committed to embracing the principles of vitalistic medicine and nature-centered healing.
A Trailblazer for Vitalism and Leadership
A natural-born leader and advocate for preserving the roots of naturopathic medicine, Emily is passionate about helping revive vitalism within naturopathic education. Over the years, many naturopathic programs have gradually shifted toward more allopathic approaches, moving away from the traditional principles that originally defined the profession.
During her third year at Bastyr, Emily connected with naturopathic elders and founded an international group of over 165 naturopathic students and physicians dedicated to preserving true naturopathic medicine and the principles of vitalism.
Within this community, she helped create a mini-school where elders deliver lectures, host mentorship programs, and inspire students to deepen their understanding of traditional naturopathic philosophy and nature-centered healing. Emily’s leadership has contributed to the continued revival of vitalism within the profession, including helping elders achieve their highest-ever student attendance at the 2024 Vital Gathering Conference and continuing that momentum through the 2025 and 2026 gatherings by helping reintegrate naturopathic elders back into the schools and student communities.
Emily is also deeply passionate about craniosacral and visceral therapeutics. She partnered with Dr. Greg Yasuda, a vitalistic naturopathic doctor in Seattle, to help host visceral therapy trainings at the San Diego campus and served as a teaching assistant for craniosacral courses at Bastyr. These hands-on therapies remain an important part of her philosophy of care, reflecting her dedication to supporting the body’s innate healing mechanisms.

A Commitment to Teaching and Community
Emily strongly believes in Docere, the naturopathic principle of “doctor as teacher.” This belief inspired her to begin building The Motherhood Community, an online space designed to connect mothers and mothers-to-be from around the world who share aligned values surrounding pregnancy, birth, motherhood, family, faith, and nature-centered living.
Inside the community, women gather for live lectures, Q&As, office hours, book clubs, motherhood circles, birth story sharing, and ongoing education surrounding topics such as botanical medicine, kitchen medicine, homeopathy, pregnancy preparation, postpartum healing, homeschooling, prevention, acute care, natural family living, and more.
The community is designed to help mothers become confident stewards of health within their own homes while building meaningful relationships with like-minded women walking a similar path. More than just an educational platform, Emily hopes this space becomes a source of wisdom, connection, encouragement, and support for mothers seeking a more intentional and grounded way of living for themselves and future generations.
Alongside the community, Emily also offers a limited number of virtual consultations and care containers for mothers and families seeking more personalized support.
A Passion for Freedom and Vitality
Emily’s mission is to help mothers and families reconnect with nature, strengthen vitality, and move toward a more intentional and grounded way of living. Whether supporting women through preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood, guiding families through pediatric care, or educating communities through The Motherhood Community, she is devoted to helping others cultivate vibrant health, meaningful connection, and a deeper understanding of the body’s innate ability to heal.
Her work is rooted in the belief that healthy families are built through strong foundations, intentional living, community, and alignment with nature’s rhythms.
Faith & Philosophy
Faith is also an important part of Emily’s life and work. As an Orthodox Christian, she believes deeply in the wisdom of creation, the importance of family and community, and caring for the body in alignment with God’s design for health and wholeness.
For patients and community members who share similar values, Emily loves creating space for deeper conversations surrounding faith, motherhood, healing, intentional living, and spiritual growth alongside the physical aspects of health.
